Chipset

What is Chipset?

A chipset is a collection of electronic components in a computer that manages the communication between the CPU, memory, storage devices, and other peripherals.

It acts as a bridge between the hardware components and the software that runs on the computer. The chipset is usually located on the motherboard of the computer and consists of two main components: the Northbridge and the Southbridge. The Northbridge manages the communication between the CPU, memory, and high-speed expansion slots such as PCIe, while the Southbridge manages the communication between the slower I/O devices such as USB, SATA, and audio. The chipset can also provide additional functionality such as integrated graphics, hardware RAID, and support for multiple CPUs. Chipsets are designed to be compatible with specific CPUs and motherboards, so it's important to choose a chipset that is compatible with your hardware components to ensure proper communication and optimal performance.
