PFC

What is PFC?

Power Factor Correction (PFC) is a technique used in power supplies to improve the efficiency of electrical power usage.

PFC works by optimizing the relationship between the voltage and current in the AC power input, resulting in a higher power factor. The power factor is a measure of the efficiency with which a power supply uses the electrical power that is supplied to it. A low power factor indicates that the power supply is using more power than it needs to perform its intended function, which can result in higher energy consumption, increased electrical waste, and higher costs. By implementing PFC, power supplies can improve their power factor, resulting in more efficient operation and lower energy costs. This is particularly important for high-powered devices such as data centers or industrial equipment, where even small efficiency improvements can lead to significant cost savings over time. There are two main types of PFC: active PFC and passive PFC. Active PFC uses a circuit to actively control the power factor, while passive PFC uses a passive component such as a capacitor or inductor to improve the power factor. Active PFC is generally considered more efficient and effective than passive PFC, but is also more complex and expensive to implement
