Linux

What is Linux?

Linux is an open-source operating system that is based on the Unix operating system.

It was created in 1991 by Linus Torvalds, a computer science student, and has since become one of the most widely used operating systems in the world. Linux is known for its stability, security, and flexibility, as well as its ability to run on a wide variety of hardware platforms. One of the key features of Linux is its open-source nature, which means that the source code for the operating system is freely available to anyone who wants to use, modify, or distribute it. This has led to a large and active community of developers who contribute to the ongoing development of the operating system and its associated software. Linux is commonly used in server environments, where its stability and security are highly valued. It is also becoming increasingly popular for use on desktop and laptop computers, particularly among developers, scientists, and other technical professionals who value its flexibility and customization options. There are many different versions, or distributions, of Linux available, each with its own unique features and characteristics. Some of the most popular Linux distributions include Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
