OLT

What is OLT?

OLT stands for Optical Line Terminal, which is a device used in fiber optic networks to manage and control the signals sent over the network.

The OLT is typically located at the central office or data center and serves as the connection point between the optical fiber network and the customer premises. The OLT converts the electrical signals received from the customer premises into optical signals that can be transmitted over the fiber optic network. It also performs functions such as traffic management, data aggregation, and routing, and may also provide power over the fiber to connected devices. OLTs are typically used in passive optical networks (PONs), which are a type of fiber optic network that use a single fiber to serve multiple customers. The OLT is responsible for managing the traffic between the customers and the network, and may also provide services such as voice, video, and data. Overall, the OLT plays a critical role in the operation of fiber optic networks, enabling the efficient and reliable transmission of high-speed data over long distances.
