What is NCQ Support?
NCQ (Native Command Queuing) is a feature found in both SSDs and HDDs that allows the drive to intelligently reorganize commands from the system, optimizing the order in which data is accessed and reducing latency.
NCQ can help to improve drive performance in multi-tasking environments, where the system is sending multiple requests to the drive at the same time. By reordering the requests to minimize head movement and disk rotation, NCQ can improve read and write speeds and reduce response times. In general, both SSDs and HDDs can support NCQ, although the implementation and performance of the feature can vary between different drives and manufacturers. Some SSDs and HDDs may also support enhanced versions of NCQ, such as TCQ (Tagged Command Queuing) or SCSI-3 NCQ, which can offer further performance improvements. Overall, NCQ support can be an important consideration when choosing between SSDs and HDDs, particularly for applications that require high-performance storage in multi-tasking environments.
