What is RS-232?

RS-232 is a standard for serial communication transmission of data between two devices, such as a computer and a peripheral device.

The standard specifies a single-ended interface with a maximum cable length of 15 meters and a maximum data transfer rate of 20 kbps. RS-232 was widely used in early computer systems to connect peripheral devices such as modems, printers, and keyboards. However, as technology has advanced, newer standards such as USB and Ethernet have largely replaced RS-232 for most applications.
